The spokesperson for Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH) made the following update today (July 26) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in the geriatric ward:
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more 76-year-old male patient was confirmed as VRE carrier. He has passed away earlier due to underlying illness.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the wards. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health protection for necessary follow-up.
