************************************************

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, visited Yau Tsim Mong District today (July 26) to gain a better understanding of the latest developments in the district.

Mr So first visited the Yau Ma Tei Theatre and the adjacent Red Brick Building. These two graded historic buildings have been revitalised as a performing arts venue designated for staging Chinese opera and nurturing talent. He toured the theatre's facilities and noted the promotion of the theatre as a local cultural and heritage tourism spot.

Mr So then visited a carpenter's shop with nearly 50 years of history. He chatted with the shop owner to better understand his business operations. Mr So appreciated the owner's creativity in reusing unwanted wood from old vessels to produce wooden products for his business, not to mention its export network all over the world.

Afterwards, Mr So visited a social enterprise jointly operated by New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and a renowned local artist. This creative concept store is furnished with "red-white-blue" materials and operates under the theme "Positive Hong Kong", with an aim of promoting positive thinking and healthy living. Mr So was glad to learn that the concept store had won wide recognition and support from the community. He encouraged the store's staff members to keep up their good work.

Before concluding his visit, Mr So held a discussion with the Chairman, the Vice Chairlady and members of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council to exchange views on district matters.
