Leisure facilities open for free use on Sport For All Day 2013
**********************************************************

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold Sport For All Day 2013 on August 4 (Sunday). The slogan for this year's event is "Stay active. Exercise every day with your family". Leisure facilities will be open for public use without charge and free recreation and sports programmes will be held for public participation. Members of the public are invited to join in and get moving with their families for a fun-filled Sunday.

     Booking for use of leisure facilities on August 4 can be made at all Leisure Link booking counters at LCSD venues (except for self-service kiosks) from 9.30am this Sunday (July 28) on a first-come, first-served basis.

     The leisure facilities open for free use on August 4 include:

* Indoor leisure facilities: badminton courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, netball courts, volleyball courts, squash courts, table tennis tables, American pool tables, billiard tables, carom tables, sport climbing walls, bowling greens, golf facilities, fitness rooms, activity rooms and dance rooms;

* Outdoor leisure facilities: tennis courts, tennis practice courts, bowling greens, batting cages, rope courses, sport climbing walls, archery ranges and golf facilities (not including camping facilities, sports grounds, and artificial and natural turf pitches);

* Public swimming pools (not including Wan Chai Swimming Pool); and

* Craft at water sports centres.

     Each person can only book one free session irrespective of the types of leisure facilities. No prior booking is required for the LCSD's swimming pool facilities. Interested users only have to line up at the entrance of the swimming pools for free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

     If a hirer fails to take up a booked leisure facility 10 minutes after the starting time of the booked session, the facility will be reallocated to walk-in participants on a first-come, first-served basis. A walk-in participant allocated a facility in this way does not need to surrender the facility even when the original hirer subsequently turns up.

     The LCSD appeals to hirers to make the best use of the booked facilities and to arrive at the venues on time. They should cancel the booked sessions as soon as possible if they find out that they are not able to use the booked facilities. They can fill out a booking cancellation form or confirm cancellation in writing and send the information together with the permit to the LCSD by fax or email or in person. The booking cancellation form is available at the Leisure Link booking counters at LCSD venues and can be downloaded from the Sport For All Day 2013 dedicated webpage: www.lcsd.gov.hk/specials/sfad2013. Hirers who have registered as Leisure Link patrons can also cancel their booked sessions online in a simple and speedy manner.

     Sport For All Day 2013 is one of the highlight events of the "Vibrant Hong Kong" theme under the city-wide "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign. It aims to promote various parent-child sports activities and encourages people to exercise with their family members, making sports and physical activities part of their daily life.

     Members of the public are also invited to participate in various free recreation and sports programmes on Sport For All Day 2013. In the afternoon of that day, the LCSD's designated sports centres in each of the 18 districts will hold various recreation and sports activities including parent-child sports programmes, exercise demonstrations, fitness corner seminars and sports play-ins.

     Enrolment for these free programmes has commenced. Interested parties should obtain admission tickets from the respective LCSD District Leisure Services Offices in the 18 districts as soon as possible. Each person can collect up to four admission tickets on a first-come, first-served basis while a small portion of tickets will be reserved for walk-in participants on the event day. Details of the District Leisure Services Offices in the 18 districts are available in the Annex.

     To call for more support in the community, the LCSD has also invited the 18 District Councils, National Sports Associations and district sports associations, as well as privately run sports clubs and health centres, to assist in promoting the event, through the organisation of free activities and opening up their facilities on August 4. Some of the National Sports Associations, district sports associations, tertiary institutions and property management companies have proactively responded to the appeal. They will organise free activities and open up their facilities for free use by their members, teachers and students or tenants on August 4, offering more opportunities for members of the public to participate in sports and physical activities.

     Sport For All Day 2013 is co-organised with the Department of Health, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre, the Postgraduate Diploma/Master of Science in Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China.
