OCI alerts public against suspected unauthorised insurer

     The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) today (July 22) alerted the public to a company which uses the names "Yuen Yeung International Insurance Co. Limited" and "Yuanyang International Insurance", which are not authorised by the Insurance Authority under the Insurance Companies Ordinance to carry on any insurance business in or from Hong Kong.

     The company has a registered office in Unit E, 9/F, Full Win Commercial Centre, 573 Nathan Road, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, Hong Kong, and operates a website with the domain name "www.yygjbx.com", claiming that the company offers life, property and casualty insurance businesses. It is suspected that the company has issued fraudulent insurance policies outside Hong Kong.

     The OCI has reported the case to the Police for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to, or has conducted any insurance transactions with Yuen Yeung International Insurance Co. Limited / Yuanyang International Insurance should contact Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station at 3661 1650, or the OCI at 2867 2565.

     Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorised by the Insurance Authority under the Insurance Companies Ordinance.  The full list of authorised insurers in Hong Kong can be found at www.oci.gov.hk/download/ins.pdf.
