The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following update today (July 5) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in the hospital:
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more 88-year-old male patient was confirmed as a VRE carrier but without clinical symptoms. The patient concerned has been discharged.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
