Over 400 young musicians, who have recently received intensive training from acclaimed musicians at the 2013 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp, will perform a variety of Chinese and Western musical pieces at two concerts in July to showcase their training achievements for the public.

Presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the 2013 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp Concerts are one of the events under the "Hip Hong Kong" theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, as well as part of the summer International Arts Carnival 2013.

The first concert, to be performed by the Camp Junior Chinese Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra, will be held at 3pm on July 21 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Highlights of the programme include the Hong Kong premiere of "Sichuan Folksong Medley", consisting of four classic Sichuan folk songs; Clarke's "Gagarin", which celebrates the first man in space and captures the spirit of the space race; and Franck's "Symphony in D minor, 1st movement".

The second concert will be held at 8pm on July 28 (Sunday) in the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall, with performances by the Camp Junior String Orchestra, Youth Choir and Chinese Orchestra. The programme includes Dvořák's "Serenade for Strings in E major, Op. 22, 4th & 5th movements"; Monteverdi's "Beatus Vir" and "Ambush from All Sides" arranged by Liu Wenjin and Zhao Yongshan.

The conductors for the concerts are the Resident Conductor of the Chinese Orchestra of Xi'an Conservatory of Music, Mr Xiao Chao; Artistic and Music Director of the Cordoba Symphonic Band (Argentina), Mr Gustavo Fontana; Concertmaster and Associate Conductor of the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra, Idaho (USA), Dr Philip Baldwin; Music Director of Saint Mary's Chamber Orchestra (USA), Dr David Leung; Director of the Choir of King's College, Cambridge (UK), Mr Stephen Cleobury and former Director of Taipei Chinese Orchestra and Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Mr Chen Tscheng-hsiung.

The Hong Kong Youth Music Camp is a major annual summer music activity of the Music Office, providing intensive training for musicians in a scenic campsite setting. Participants are also encouraged to take part in recreational and sports activities at the camp.
