Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal work in Western District from this Friday
************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (July 2) reminded the public that the temporary traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate tram track renewal work will be implemented in Western District from 10am this Friday (July 5) to 11.59pm next Saturday (July 13).

The temporary traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(1) Temporary traffic arrangements

* The sections of fast lanes of Des Voeux Road West (both directions) from a point about 10 metres east of its junction with Eastern Street to a point about 40m east of the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except trams.

* A section of about 50m of the existing tram lane on Des Voeux Road West eastbound near Wilmer Street will be cancelled.

(2) Temporary transport arrangements

The bus stop on Des Voeux Road West eastbound outside No. 139-145 will be temporarily relocated eastward by about 20m.

Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on-site to guide motorists.

Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to use public transport as far as possible.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

Details of the temporary traffic and transport arrangements are now available on the department's website (www.td.gov.hk).
