Special traffic and transport arrangements for flag raising ceremony, concert and public procession on July 1

     The Transport Department (TD) today (June 27) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented on Monday (July 1) on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon to facilitate the flag raising ceremony, concert and public procession.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(I) Flag Raising Ceremony in Wan Chai North

Road closure
------------

     Expo Drive, Expo Drive Central and Expo Drive East in Wan Chai will be temporarily closed from 5.30am to 11am.

Public transport services
-------------------------

1. Expo Drive East bus terminus will be suspended from midnight to 11am.  During the period of suspension, cross-harbour route 961, Citybus routes 25A and 25C will terminate at Wan Chai Ferry Pier bus terminus. A temporary bus stop for New World First Bus route H2 will be provided at Wan Chai Ferry Pier bus terminus; and
2. The taxi stand at Expo Drive will be suspended from 5.30am to 11am.


(II)  Concert in Kai Tak Development Site

Road closure
------------

     Shing Cheong Road, the unnamed road connecting Shing Fung Road and Shing Cheong Road, Shing Fung Road and the unnamed road leading to the proposed Runway Park in Kai Tak will be temporarily closed from 10am to 9pm.

Public transport services
-------------------------

1. KMB Recreation Service Route 5R heading to Kai Tak Development Site will be operated from 10.30am to 3pm. Buses will wait for passengers on the eastbound of Cha Kwo Ling Road near Exit B2 of MTR Yau Tong Station. The services heading to MTR Yau Tong Station will be operated from 6pm (dispersal time) until dispersal of all waiting passengers, buses will wait for passengers in the loading area near the event venue.  The service may be adjusted subject to the passenger demand;
2. The stops of Kowloon GMB route 23C on Cha Kwo Ling Road eastbound near Exit B2 of MTR Yau Tong Station and on Cha Kwo Ling Road eastbound near the CCC Kei Faat Primary School will be suspended from 8am to 8pm. The route will also be temporarily diverted during the period; and
3. The taxi stands at Cha Kwo Ling Road eastbound near Exit B2 of MTR Yau Tong Station will be suspended from 8am to 8pm.

(III) Public procession from Victoria Park to Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct

Road closure
------------

Phase I

     The following roads will be closed from about 1pm:

1. The U-turn slip road between Gloucester Road southbound and northbound;
2. Sugar Street;
3. Great George Street (if necessary);
4. Paterson Street (if necessary);
5. Kingston Street (if necessary);
6. The section of Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road (if necessary); and
7.Cleveland Street (if necessary).

Phase II


     The following roads will be closed from about 1.45pm:

1. Jardine's Bazaar;
2. Tang Lung Street;
3. The section of Canal Road East between Russell Street and Hennessy Road;
4. The section of Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
5. The section of Wan Chai Road between Canal Road West and Tin Lok Lane; and
6. The section of Bowrington Road between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road.

Phase III


     The following roads will be closed from about 2pm:

1. Causeway Road westbound;
2. Moreton Terrace;
3. Shelter Street;
4. Slip road leading from Yee Wo Street eastbound to Causeway Road westbound;
5. Irving Street;
6. The section of Pennington Street between Keswick Street and Yee Wo Street;
7. Yee Wo Street westbound;
8. Hennessy Road westbound;
9. The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
10. Kai Chiu Road;
11. The section of Yun Ping Road between Lan Fong Road and Kai Chiu Road;
12. The section of Percival Street between Lockhart Road and Hennessy Road;
13. Slip road leading from Johnston Road eastbound to Hennessy Road westbound;
14. The section of Luard Road between Johnston Road and Hennessy Road;
15. The section of Thomson Road between Johnston Road and Luard Road;
16. The section of Fenwick Street between Hennessy Road and Johnston Road;
17. The section of Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road;
18. The section of Johnston Road westbound between Ship Street and Hennessy Road; and
19. The section of Johnston Road eastbound between Landale Street and Hennessy Road.

Phase IV


     The following roads will be closed from about 2.45pm:

1. The section of Queensway westbound between Queen's Road East and Queen's Road Central;
2. The section of Des Voeux Road Central between Queensway and Pedder Street;
3. Bank Street; and
4. The section of Ice House Street northbound between Queen's Road Central and Des Voeux Road Central.

Additional road closure

     The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic at any time until the crowd has dispersed and the road closure is lifted:

1. Yacht Street;
2. The section of Lau Li Street between Ngan Mok Street and Hing Fat Street;
3. The section of Electric Road between Lau Sin Street and Tsing Fung Street;
4. Lau Sin Street west of King's Road;
5. The section of Hing Fat Street between Causeway Road and Lau Sin Street;
6. The section of Tai Hang Road flyover northbound between slip road of Tung Lo Wan Road and Victoria Park Road westbound;
7. The section of Percival Street southbound between Gloucester Road service road and Lockhart Road; and
8. The section of Chater Road between Lambeth Path and Jackson Road.

Public transport services
-------------------------

     A total of 89 bus routes and 11 green minibus routes operating at the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. Tram services between Tong Shui Road and Western Market will be suspended from about 2.20pm. The concerned public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     Due to the extensive road closures, it is anticipated that the traffic in the vicinity of the affected areas would be very congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary.  Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on TV and radio.
