SCED visits Tuen Mun District (with photos)
*******************************************

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, visited Tuen Mun District today (June 27) to see for himself the integrated community support services for local residents and on-the-job training provided by a social enterprise for women.

Mr So first dropped by the Evangelical Lutheran Church Hong Kong Tuen Mun Integrated Youth Service Centre. He was briefed on the comprehensive services offered by the centre, including neighbourhood support and youth employment services.

He talked with participants of the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme run by the Centre. Participants who are being trained to become junior chefs and comic artist assistants told Mr So how they have benefited from the courses.

He also chatted with the ambassadors of a neighbourhood mutual help programme, who were mainly housewives, to learn more about how the support network offers timely assistance to families in need.

Mr So then visited Fantastic Ladies Café, a social enterprise established by Hong Kong Free Methodist Church with funding support from the Government's Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme. The café provides training and employment opportunities to female residents in the district.

Mr So was glad to learn that the café had won wide recognition from customers with its friendly services. He encouraged the staff to keep up with their good work.

Before concluding his visit, Mr So held a discussion with the Chairman, the Vice Chairman and members of the Tuen Mun District Council to exchange views on district matters.
