The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding an earlier announcement on a male medical ward in which five patients had been infected with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, the spokesperson for Shatin Hospital gave the following update today (June 27):
Two more patients (aged 75 and 77) were confirmed as having Respiratory Syncytial Virus today. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
Admission and visiting to the ward concerned have been suspended. Infection control measures have been stepped up according to the established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
