The Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law, inspected a passing-out parade for 14 station officers, nine firemen and 22 ambulancemen at the Fire Services Training School today (June 21).

Speaking at the parade, Mr Law commended the fire and ambulance staff for their professionalism, devotion and firm commitment in serving the community.

"The Fire Services Department (FSD) has the important task of providing efficient emergency services, and there has been growing public demand for and expectations of the FSD's services. In 2012, the department received a total of 750 000 calls for fire services, special services and emergency ambulance services," Mr Law said.

Mr Law said the FSD would continue to recruit devoted personnel in order to meet the demand for emergency services.

"To provide more effective and sophisticated training for fire and ambulance staff, construction works for the new Fire Services Training School at Pak Shing Kok, Tseung Kwan O, are under way. There will be outdoor and indoor simulation training facilities in the new school for various complex and large-scale emergency scenarios to better equip trainees with fire-fighting and rescue skills. The school will also provide in-service training for graduates to enhance their professional ability," he said.

Mr Law congratulated the graduates on their completion of stringent training and encouraged them to strive for excellence in fulfilling their commitment to serve the community.

The parade was followed by a demonstration of fire-fighting and rescue techniques by the graduates. The graduates have each successfully completed 26 weeks of training and will be posted to various fire stations and ambulance depots for on-the-job training to gain field experience.
