Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession on Hong Kong Island this Sunday
******************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (June 20) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in phases on Hong Kong Island from about 1pm this Sunday (June 23) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

Phase I

     The following roads will be intermittently closed from about 1pm:

1. Marble Road westbound;
2. Kam Hong Street southbound;
3. King's Road westbound;
4. Causeway Road westbound;
5. Irving Street westbound;
6. Pennington Street northbound;
7. Yee Wo Street westbound;
8. Hennessy Road westbound; and
9. Queensway.

Phase II

     The following roads will be closed from about 2.30pm:

1. Rodney Street;
2. The section of Harcourt Road westbound between the exit of Harcourt Garden car park and Tamar Street;
3. The fast lane of Harcourt Road westbound between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
4. The section of Harcourt Road eastbound between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
5. Tim Wa Avenue southbound (except for vehicles heading for the Chief Executive's Office and Central Government Offices car park);
6. The fast lane of Garden Road flyover; and
7. The section of Edinburgh Place southbound between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.

Public transport services
-------------------------

     A total of 24 bus routes and four green minibus routes operating at the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The public transport operators concerned will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     The TD anticipates that the traffic in Eastern, Wan Chai and Central would be congested on that day. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on TV and radio.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at the department's website (www.td.gov.hk). Please call 1823 for any enquiries.
