Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 814 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 47 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (June 17) and a total of 294 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 547 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 267 for other traffic offences.

     Twenty-three pedestrians and 117 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,181 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May this year, of which 401 involved pedestrian.  Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 49.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
