Hong Kong Customs seizes heroin at airport (with photo)
*******************************************************

Customs officers intercepted a foreign female passenger arriving from Hanoi, Vietnam at the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 3.8 kilogrammes of heroin with an estimated market value of about $3.06 million on June 15. The drugs were concealed inside clothes, books, packaging boxes and a metal pot which were found in her checked-in suitcase. It was believed that the concealment was used to evade customs officers' detection.

The arrestee, aged 37 years old, claimed to be a clerk. She will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (June 17).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
