Cluster of Rhinovirus cases in Tai Po Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Tai Po Hospital made the following announcement today (June 13):

     A total of 10 patients (aged 38 to 95) and three staff in a male infirmary ward have presented with symptoms of upper respiratory infection since June 2. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients and the test results for six of them were found positive to Rhinovirus. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff concerned have recovered and returned to work.

     Admission to and transfer from the ward have been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have been stepped up according to the established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
