Approved course providers appointed under Financial Assistance Scheme for Designated Evening Adult Education Courses
*********************************************************

The Education Bureau (EDB) announced today (June 11) that four course providers have been appointed as Approved Course Providers (ACPs) to operate evening secondary courses under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Designated Evening Adult Education Courses (FAEAEC) in the next three school years from 2013/14 to 2015/16.

A spokesman for the EDB said, "The course providers, namely the Lutheran Church - Hong Kong Synod, Po Leung Kuk, HKCT Group and Kwun Tong Lutheran Evening School, will operate evening secondary courses at 17 designated centres for the 2013/14 to 2015/16 school years. There are three designated centres each in the Kowloon East, Kowloon West and Hong Kong Island regions and four centres each in the New Territories East and New Territories West regions."

"Financial assistance under the FAEAEC is provided to learners aged 17 or above attending evening secondary courses that are quality-assured and commissioned by the EDB in the designated centres. In the 2012/13 school year, more than 1,200 students were studying under FAEAEC.

"Students having fulfilled the eligibility criteria, such as having at least 80 per cent attendance, will be reimbursed a subsidy of 30 per cent of the tuition fees paid. Eligible students having obtained full or half assistance level in the means test administered by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) will be reimbursed in full (100 per cent of the tuition fees paid) or half (50 per cent of the tuition fees paid) respectively," the spokesman said.

"If students have financial difficulties in paying their tuition fees in advance, they can apply to the SFAA for loans under the Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme," he added.

More information on the financial assistance scheme and the designated centres operating the evening secondary courses is available on the EDB website (www.edb.gov.hk/faeaec_e).
