Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, at a media stand-up session after the Housing Authority (HA)'s annual special open meeting this afternoon (June 6):
Reporter: Some members in the meeting said that in future public housing in the New Territories should be charged a lower rent than those in the urban area. Is that a new approach that the Government considers?
Secretary for Transport and Housing: Today's annual open meeting of the Housing Authority is an occasion for all members of the HA to provide their views and any ideas, suggestions, on the policies and operational aspects of public housing.
Just then we have heard the views of quite a number of members. We would take their views into consideration. But initially, the Director of Housing, Mr Duncan Pescod, as a convention, will address the next annual meeting of the Housing Authority, which is to be held on June 27. He will provide some initial responses to members' views and concerns.
