Contractor fined for violation of safety rules

Hwa Kei Water Electric Air-conditioning Decoration Engineering was fined $80,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (May 31) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred in Central on September 3 last year, in which an electrician was electrocuted while conducting cable placement work inside a unit under renovation.
