Further grants approved for earthquake victims on the Mainland
******************************************************

The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved today (May 27) two grants from the Disaster Relief Fund totalling $4.722 million to two relief agencies to provide relief to earthquake victims in Sichuan.

A government spokesman said that the victims suffering from the severe earthquake disaster in Sichuan last month were still in dire need of relief to tide over the present difficulties. The Committee hopes the grants, one of $3.127 million to the CEDAR Fund and another of $1.595 million to Habitat for Humanity China, will facilitate the provision of relief to victims and help them restore normality to their lives.

"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the two relief agencies have been asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the completion of the relief projects," the spokesman said.
