Regarding the earlier confirmation that some in-patients confirmed to be Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital made the following update today (May 25):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more 70-year-old male patient has been confirmed as a VRE carrier during contact tracing. He did not have related clinical symptoms and has been discharged before commencement of contact tracing.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
