The spokesperson for the Hospital Authority (HA) made the following statement today (May 22) regarding the heart transplant event at Queen Mary Hospital (QMH):
HA is very concerned about the incident and has requested QMH to set up an investigation panel to investigate the event thoroughly and independently. The report with recommendations is expected to be completed and submitted to HA Head Office in eight weeks. The investigation findings will also be explained to the family of the patient.
HA would like to express the deepest condolences and apologies to the patient and her family, and will ensure QMH to provide the most appropriate clinical treatment and care to the patient, as well as the support and assistance to the family. Apology was also extended to the donor's family, and it is hoped that the enthusiastic support of Hong Kong people on organ donation will not be affected by the event.
