In response to media enquiries about the verdict of the Coroner's Court today (May 21) on a boy who passed away at Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH), a spokesman for TMH gave the following reply:
TMH noted the verdict of the Coroner and would study the jury's recommendations. TMH once again expresses the deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. The hospital would continue to communicate with the family and provide them with all possible support and assistance.
Following the incident, TMH has reviewed the handling of complicated airway cases which may have potential difficulty in intubation. An interdepartmental team consisting of medical professionals from neurosurgery, general surgery, anesthesiology and ear, nose and throat, as well as orthopaedics, was formed to formulate relevant guidelines. The medical professionals have also participated in simulation training aiming at strengthening their capabilities to handle emergencies during operations.
TMH has once again reminded medical staff to communicate with the patients and the families prior to any medical procedure and to keep proper records.
