Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 602 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 59 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (May 20) and a total of 294 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 439 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 163 for other traffic offences.

     Thirteen pedestrians and 106 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 932 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to April this year, of which 325 involved pedestrian.  Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 50.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
