Regarding the earlier confirmation that some in-patients were confirmed to be Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital made the following update today (May 20):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more 99-year-old female patient has been confirmed as a VRE carrier during contact tracing. She did not have related clinical symptoms and is in a stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
