Awards for Basic Law Comic/Motion Comic Design Contest to be presented this Saturday
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

The award presentation ceremony for the Basic Law Comic/Motion Comic Design Contest, jointly organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB), will be held this Saturday (May 18).

Members of the public are invited to join the ceremony, during which the performance of comic writing in Chinese ink will be staged and winning entries will be displayed.

The ceremony will be held at 3.30pm at the Auditorium, 9/F, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Building, 21 Pak Fuk Road, North Point. Officiating guests will include the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; Convenor of the Basic Law Promotion Working Group of the CPCE, Mrs Janice Choi; and Advisor of the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation, Mr Vincent Yeung.

Since 2004, the CPCE and HAB have been organising territory-wide events to promote the Basic Law. This year's activity aims to encourage the public to enhance their understanding of the legislation through the design of comics and motion comics, with chapters 1, 5 and 7 of the Basic Law as the theme.

The contest is divided into Primary School, Secondary School and Post-Secondary-cum-Open divisions. A winner, first and second runners-ups and merit awards are selected in each division.

To tie in with the contest, two workshops were held on October 27 and November 3, 2012, at which Professor Cora Chan of the University of Hong Kong shared her views on the Basic Law, and representatives from the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation shared useful tips on comic and motion comic design with the participants. The workshops were well received and the attendees participated actively.

This contest was co-organised with the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, Education Bureau, Department of Justice and the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation. For more details, please visit www.basiclaw2012.com.hk.
