Remand inmate dies in public hospital

A remand inmate in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died in a public hospital today (May 10).
At about 3.42pm, officers found the 56-year-old male remand inmate unconscious after he finished playing table tennis in the dayroom. A medical officer in the centre hospital gave him first aid treatment and immediately transferred him to a public hospital for further treatment. The inmate was certified dead at 5.13pm.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The inmate was remanded pending court hearing for the offence of murder.
