The Deputy Director of the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Beijing (Beijing Office), Mr Tommy Yuen, today (May 10) launches the first of a series of roving exhibitions in northern, north-eastern and north-western China to introduce Hong Kong's excellence and charm as Asia's world city to audiences on the Mainland.

The first stop of the roving exhibitions is the 20th China Tianjin Investment and Trade Fair in Tianjin, one of the largest annual trade events in the municipality, which opens today.

Mr Yuen said that with the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" and strong support from the Central Government, Hong Kong has continued to maintain its competitive edge in various aspects and to flourish as one of the most thriving cosmopolitan cities in the world.

"Over the years, Hong Kong and the Mainland have increased co-operation and exchanges on many fronts, and new opportunities have arisen to bolster closer collaboration between the two places.

"We hope that through the exhibitions, the Mainland public will gain a better understanding of the make-up of Hong Kong as Asia's world city, with a view to forging new grounds for people of both places to work together to contribute to the country's developments," Mr Yuen said.

The series of roving exhibitions, titled "Hong Kong - Asia's world city", presents a dynamic Hong Kong by showcasing the city's core values - Enterprising, Innovative, Free, Excellence and Quality Living.

The exhibition makes extensive use of colourful pictures, interactive features and vivid language to introduce to Mainland audiences the various facets of Hong Kong - the efficiency and vibrancy of an international metropolis, the richness of its culture, as well as the enterprising spirit and creativity of its people.

After the debut in Tianjin, the roving exhibitions will tour about 10 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions under the purview of the Beijing Office, including Shangdong, Heilongjiang, Jilin and Inner Mongolia, from May 2013 to March 2014.
