Transcript of remarks by STH after sixth meeting of Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee
*********************************************************

Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, at a media stand-up session after the sixth meeting of the Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee this afternoon (May 9):

Reporter: Can you briefly say what the committee has discussed today? Are you still on track to publish the report and consultation document in July?

Secretary for Transport and Housing: Very briefly, at the meeting this afternoon of the Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee, we received an initial report from two research institutions: one on the survey of sub-divided units in Hong Kong. So we have received a preliminary analysis of the studies and members have provided very useful feedback to the researchers. So, the research organisation would strengthen the substance of the analysis and do follow-up search for additional information. And the organisation would provide a final report at the next meeting at the end of this month ¡V end of May. The other report is a report on focus group discussions conducted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This is more a qualitative feedback from people of various backgrounds. Some of them are public housing tenants; some are owners of HOS (Home Ownership Scheme) units; some (are) living in private housing; elderly, young people, university graduates ¡V all range of people. And there are also focus groups for professional bodies, think tanks and other organisations. So, again, members have provided very useful feedback and, again, the final report will be presented to the next meeting at the end of this month. As I said just then, we realise that we are working to a very tight schedule. That's why we have decided today that there should be an additional meeting in June, which is going to be a day-long meeting. So, our current timetable is due?to come to a draft report for consultation purpose around the middle of the year. So, basically, we are talking about this summer.
