LegCo President on lift incident
********************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

Following is a transcript of remarks made by the President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Mr Jasper Tsang, on the recent lift incident at a media session in the LegCo Complex today (May 3):

From what the Legislative Council Commission saw in the tapes, there were at least eight incidents where some people, several people, entered the lifts, the elevators used by, that are supposed to be used by Members exclusively while a quorum bell is sounding. These people entered the lifts, entered the elevators and pressed all the buttons in the elevator, with the result that Members using those lifts took considerably longer time to reach this floor.  So judging from what we saw in the video recordings, we believe that there was a breach of section 19 in the Legislative Council (Powers and Privileges) Ordinance. So we believe it is a police case, we decided that we should report it to the police.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
