LCSD contacting hirers to reconfirm facilities bookings
*******************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is contacting some hirers of its leisure and recreation facilities to reconfirm their bookings made through the department's booking counters or self-service kiosks during the period from 7am to 2pm on April 26, 2013.

A spokesman for the department said today (May 3) that owing to the malfunctioning of one of the servers of the Leisure Link computerised booking system (LLS) during the aforesaid period, some booking records could not be updated in the central database after the transactions were completed, thereby causing some of the bookings to not be confirmed even if payment had been made and tickets were issued.

The spokesman added that the department had immediately contacted the contractor of the LLS to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident to identify the problems and take remedial measures. The LLS has already resumed normal service and the department has checked all the records and screened out those bookings with payment but not successfully confirmed. The LCSD is contacting those who were affected by the incident for reallocation of facilities or refund arrangement.

The spokesman stressed that bookings made through the Internet and telephone channels were unaffected in the incident.

Since fewer than 40 of the affected hirers had not provided contact information when they made bookings, the spokesman appealed to them to call the Telephone Booking Service Centre on 2314 7702 as soon as possible to verify their booking records so that follow-up actions can be taken if necessary. The Centre operates from 7am to 9pm daily.

"We would like to express our apologies to those who were affected by this incident for the inconvenience caused to them," the spokesman said, adding that the department had instructed the contractor to further enhance the computer programme to ensure that all the booking records will be properly saved in the central database to avoid recurrence of similar incidents.
