Traditional Guizhou songs and dances to be showcased in Hong Kong
************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present "Genesis and Spirit - A Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Guizhou" in June. The performances will showcase the precious song-and-dance culture of Guizhou for Hong Kong audiences.

Guizhou is situated in the southwest of China. It boasts picturesque landscapes, a pleasant climate, rich natural resources and an interesting demographic mix of ethnic minority groups. The people of Guizhou have been living in harmony with nature for ages, taking the mountains and the rivers as part of their existence. There is a Chinese saying that describes the uniqueness of Guizhou: "A different sky every 10 miles, and different customs even within one mountain". It has therefore given birth to many rare cultural heritage gems. "Genesis and Spirit - A Showcase of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Guizhou" is made up of the songs and dances of the various ethnic groups in the region, and the colourful and eclectic cultures of Guizhou, which can captivate audiences around the world, will be on full display.

The songs and dances featured in the programme are rarely performed in Hong Kong. These include the grand song of the Dong ethnic group "Our Ancestors Made Their Home Here", the Miao dance "Long-robed Line Dance", the Yao dance "The Long Drum Dance of the Yao", the Dong custom demonstration "A Serenading Procession under the Moon", the Dong wedding custom and dance "The Chicken Seizing Game to Marriage", the song of the pipa and niutuiqin "Like the Stars and the Moon", the Dong ballad with Dong pipa "Zhulang and Niangmei", and more.
