Hospital Authority response to media on limited registration renewal application
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

In response to media enquiries about the applications to the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK) for renewal of the limited registration of three non-local doctors today (May 2), the Hospital Authority (HA) spokesman gave the following reply:

The HA welcomed the decision of the MCHK to approve the renewal applications for practice with limited registration of three non-local doctors (one in Anaesthesia and two in Family Medicine) who will continue to service and help relieve the frontline pressure in public hospitals for another one year.

The HA spokesman said a total of 13 doctors have been approved by the MCHK in the past year for one-year practice in public hospitals under limited registration to relieve manpower pressure in the specialties of Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. At the end of last year (2012), the MCHK had approved the renewal of limited registration of four non-local doctors, two in Anaesthesia, one in Internal Medicine and one in Emergency Medicine.

The spokesman remarked that HA would continue to exhaust every effort to attract fully registered local doctors and retain public doctors who have worked longer hours and more frequent call duties amid the current manpower shortfall.
