Junior Police Call members and groups commended for their contributions (with photos)

      A total of 281 winners of the Hongkong Bank Foundation Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards 2012 were commended today (April 27) for their outstanding contributions in disseminating fight crime messages, organising and participating in community services, and promoting the JPC Scheme.

      They received commendation trophies and cash awards from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Tang Kam-moon; and HSBC Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific Region, Mr Raymond Cheng, at the presentation ceremony.

      At the ceremony, Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB), Mr Wong Kwok-wai, said that adopting an inter-departmental multi-agency approach, the JPC Scheme organised various fight crime and anti-drug activities as well as different kinds of training to help members acquire positive values and develop their potential.

      Mr Wong noted that to further promote racial harmony in the community, the JPC Scheme organised various activities such as visits to various Police units, community service and Chinese language classes to encourage the engagement of non-ethnic Chinese community.

      Meanwhile, he thanked JPC honorary presidents, school principals, teachers, JPC district councils and school clubs for their unfailing support and made the scheme a success.

      Mr Cheng said that HSBC has been a strong supporter of education, in particular projects designed to enhance students' holistic development. HSBC is proud to have funded the Junior Police Call Awards Scheme since 1986 with the hope that young people can actively participate in community services, unleash potential and cultivate leadership skills through participating in JPC activities.
   
      Organised by the Police and sponsored by the Hongkong Bank Foundation since 1986, the Awards comprises six categories this year, namely Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club (Primary School), Best JPC School Club (Secondary School), Best JPC District Council and Web Quiz.

      A selection panel made up of representatives from the PPRB, HSBC, JPC Central Advisory Board and Police districts picked the winners from district selection boards and final selection boards at the Police Headquarters.

      Mr Alex Wong Wing-lik from Wan Chai District was selected as the Best JPC Member and Miss Yip Kwun-wa from Lantau District the Best JPC Advanced Leader.  Each received a commendation trophy and $8,000 cash award.

      The Madam Lau Kam Lung Secondary School of Miu Fat Buddhist Monastery of Tuen Mun District and Sau Ming Primary School of Sau Mau Ping District won the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) awards respectively.  The former received a cash award of $13,000 and the latter $9,000.  The Best JPC District Council award went to Tsuen Wan JPC District Council, which was honoured with a $21,000 cash award.  Miss Lam I-cheng of Yuen Long District was the champion of the Web Quiz and won a $3,000 cash award.
