Regarding recent confirmation of a cluster of patients with Influenza A (human swine influenza) in a female ward for the severely intellectual disabled, the spokesperson for Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) gave the following update today (April 24):
One more patient, aged 38, in the ward has presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and her test result was positive for Influenza A (human swine influenza). The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the concerned ward are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
