LegCo to continue Second Reading debate on the Appropriation Bill 2013

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) will hold a meeting on Wednesday (April 24) at 11am in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. During the meeting, Members will continue the Second Reading debate on the Appropriation Bill 2013 and Government officials will speak on the Bill.

     If this Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, it will go to the Committee Stage, during which Mr Leung Kwok-hung, Mr Albert Chan, Mr Gary Fan, Mr Wong Yuk-man and Mr Chan Chi-chuen will move totally 710 amendments.

     In addition, the Arbitration (Amendment) Bill 2013, the Merchant Shipping (Seafarers) (Amendment) Bill 2013, the Betting Duty (Amendment) Bill 2013 and the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill 2013 will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings. Second Reading debates on the bills will be adjourned.

     Meanwhile, the Secretary for Food and Health will move a proposed resolution under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance to seek the Council's approval to the Pharmacy and Poisons (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulation 2013 and the Poisons List (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulation 2013, made by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board on March 28, 2013.

     Mr Wong Ting-kwong will move a proposed resolution under section 34(4) of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to extend the period for amending the Companies (Revision of Financial Statements and Reports) Regulation and the Companies (Disclosure of Information about Benefits of Directors) Regulation laid on the table of the LegCo on March 27, 2013, to the meeting of May 15, 2013.

     In addition, Members will also ask the Government 22 questions on various policy areas, all of which require written replies.

     Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. Members of the public can also watch or listen the meeting via the web broadcast system on the LegCo website.
