***********************************************************

A small number of free admission tickets for the Opening Ceremony of the 4th Hong Kong Games (HKG) are still available, and members of public should not miss the chance of enjoying the wonderful programmes at the ceremony, a spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said today (April 22).

Ticket distribution at 18 District Leisure Services Offices of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) started on April 12. Each person can obtain two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Opening Ceremony of the 4th HKG will be held at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground at 7pm on Saturday (April 27), and includes ceremonial proceedings and a series of wonderful cultural and entertainment programmes. On the part of the ceremonial proceedings, London 2012 Olympic Games gold medallists Ms Wu Jing-yu (women's taekwondo) and Mr Dong Dong (men's trampoline) will join local elite athletes to take part in the lighting of the Games cauldron. As for the cultural and entertainment programmes, they include performances by the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, as well as a grand illusion show by acclaimed local magician Avon Lee. Local pop-singer Hacken Lee and girl groups As One and Super Gear will also join the show.

The spokesman reminded members of the public to make good use of the opportunity to join and support this major Hong Kong sports event. Those without tickets can watch the highlights of the ceremony broadcast on TVB-Jade channel between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on the same night.

The HKG, a biennial local sports extravaganza, is organised by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by the Community Sports Committee with the 18 District Councils, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, relevant National Sports Associations and the LCSD as co-organisers. The Hong Kong Jockey Club is the Principal Contributor.

The Games this year will be held between April 27 and June 2. Over 3 000 athletes selected from the 18 districts will compete for their respective districts in the Games, which includes eight sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

Details of the 4th HKG and information about the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices are available on the dedicated homepage: www.hongkonggames.hk.
