Prospects Theatre to perform select play "A Lonely Planet B"
************************************************************

The Hong Kong-based arts group Prospects Theatre will perform its latest production "A Lonely Planet B" in May and June. Written by Kwok Chui-yi, the play was introduced at last year's Playwright Scheme.

The Playwright Scheme was launched in 2006 as a platform for the launch of new plays, and last year saw 21 playwrights present their works. The scheme seeks to nurture young playwrights, offering them a stepping-stone to live theatre performance. Of last year's 21 plays, "A Lonely Planet B" was selected to be presented on stage.

Directed by Tam Hung-man, the cast includes Yuen Wai-ying, Yeung Wai-lun, Mandy Yiu Yun-man, Chester Wong Po-shing, Kong Ho-yin and Ho Hsin-lu.

"A Lonely Planet B" is based on the author's travels in Taiwan. It is also a story of "lost and found". The fireworks paint the sky red and there is a stench of gunpowder in the air. The main protagonist gazes at the harbour that is no longer Victoria's, utters an oath and jumps into the sea. She swims and swims and swims... Later, when she wakes up, she finds herself on an island. There are mountains and water, but no cars or buildings. There is also beer. They drink. One takes a sip, and the other takes a sip; he says something, then she says something. They have come from different parts of the world to arrive at this same spot. They have something in common - they are lonely souls.

"A Lonely Planet B", performed in Cantonese and Putonghua (in parts), is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm from May 30 (Thursday) to June 2 (Sunday); at 3pm from June 1 (Saturday) to June 2 (Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $180 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
