Thirty-two EPD convictions in March

     Thirty-two convictions were recorded last month (March) for breaches of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.

     Fourteen of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 10 were under the Noise Control Ordinance, seven were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, and one was under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

     The heaviest fine in March was $50,000. A company that used powered mechanical equipment without a valid construction noise permit and carried out prescribed construction work in a designated area without a valid construction noise permit has been fined $50,000 for each offence.
