The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

To promote health-care collaboration on an international platform, the Hospital Authority (HA) and MOH Holdings Pte Ltd (MOHH) of Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today (April 15) outlining the plans to establish a structured exchange platform for health-care executives from the two organisations. This will include training, sharing expertise in health-care management and policy development for medical services in public hospitals.

The MoU was signed by the HA Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, and MOHH Managing Director Mr Goh Aik Guan in Singapore.

"The signing of the MoU signified the establishment of a framework for co-operation in health care between Hong Kong and Singapore. This is also the first of its kind between the HA and an overseas organisation," Mr Wu said.

"We are delighted to work with MOHH in developing a series of training and exchange programmes for our health-care professionals and executives. This collaboration allows us to explore and share different experiences as well as keep us abreast of the latest international trends in health-care provision. This new exchange platform is mutually beneficial to both Hong Kong and Singapore and will bring our health-care management into a new era."

Mr Goh added that the MoU is a significant step toward deeper collaboration between the two health-care systems. "Singapore and Hong Kong face similar health-care challenges and demands. Having a framework in which experiences and knowledge are shared, and, from there, ideas ferment, will definitely be valuable in our common quest to meet those challenges. We, at MOHH and the Singapore Ministry of Health, are very excited."

This MoU will help the two places develop long-term and sustainable solutions to ensure the delivery of their respective high standards of health-care services, which are trusted by the community while providing inspirational work environments for staff. This collaboration between the HA and MOHH will not only broaden the perspectives of their respective employees, but also benchmark management practices with other overseas health-care organisations.

Besides attending the signing ceremony, the HA delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health of Singapore, Mr Gan Kim Yong, to exchange views on the latest development and challenges in health-care provision, and visited a newly built hospital, a biomedical science hub and the Civil Service College of Singapore before concluding their trip.

MOHH is a holding company of Singapore's public health-care assets. It undertakes strategic functions for the Ministry of Health of Singapore and the public health-care institutions. The health-care institutions within MOHH are divided into six broad clusters. They include National University Health System, National Healthcare Group, Singapore Health Services, Alexandra Health System, Jurong Health Services and Eastern Health Alliance.
