Fatal traffic accident in Wan Chai

      Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Wan Chai this afternoon (April 12) in which a 54-year-old man died.

      At about 2.30pm, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 34-year-old man was travelling along eastbound Thomson Road. When passing the junction of Fleming Road, it reportedly knocked down the 54-year-old man who was crossing the road.

      Sustaining head injuries, the man was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital in unconscious state and then transferred to Queen Mary Hospital where he was later certified dead at 20.02pm.

      The LGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is still being detained for further enquiries.

      Investigations will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island.
