Political Assistant appointed

     The Chief Executive's Office announced today (April 12) that the Appointment Committee has appointed a Political Assistant of the fourth term of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

     The Secretary for Transport and Housing has recommended Ms Patricia Woo Wan-shan to be his Political Assistant and his recommendation is approved by the Appointment Committee. Ms Woo will assume office on April 16.

     The 13 Political Assistants of the current-term Government have all been appointed. The Government will make further announcements on the Under Secretaries for the remaining bureaux in due course.

     Following are the biographical notes on the new appointee:

Ms Patricia Woo Wan-shan

     Aged 45, Ms Woo holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, and a Master of Science degree from the National University of Singapore. She joined the Hong Kong Government in 1990 as an Assistant Trade Officer and subsequently as an Administrative Officer in 2001. She left the Government to pursue full-time study in Environmental Management in 2010, and returned to Hong Kong to join the Independent Police Complaints Council in 2011.

     During her service in the Government, Ms Woo has worked in a number of bureaux and departments, including the Trade and Industry Department, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Geneva, the Security Bureau, the Constitutional Affairs Bureau, the Education and Manpower Bureau, the Home Affairs Bureau, and the Central Policy Unit.
