Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases in Caritas Medical Centre

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding the recent confirmation of a number of male inpatients as carriers of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE), the spokesperson of Caritas Medical Centre made the following update today (April 9):
Two more male inpatients (aged 68 and 73) were confirmed today as VRE carriers without symptoms. The patients are under medical surveillance in isolation and are in stable condition.
The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation of the ward. All cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
