SFST to visit US

     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will visit Chicago and Washington, DC, from tomorrow (April 9) to April 12 to strengthen ties between Hong Kong and the United States.

     During his visit, Professor Chan will meet with officials of financial regulators and key personnel of financial institutions including the US Federal Reserve Board, the US Department of the Treasury, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the International Monetary Fund.

     He will also pay courtesy calls on the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the United States of America, Mr Cui Tiankai; the Chinese Consul General to Chicago, Mr Zhao Weiping; and the Deputy Mayor of Chicago, Mr Steven Koch, and deliver speeches on "Hong Kong's Financial Market and China's Opportunities: The New Decade" at the University of Chicago and at a luncheon hosted by the Heritage Foundation.

     Professor Chan will depart Washington, DC, for Hong Kong on April 12.
