Government continues to assist resolving container terminal labour dispute
************************************************************

In response to media enquiries on the procession by the container terminal workers today (April 7), a government spokesman said the Labour Department continued to actively assist all parties concerned to agree on the conciliation meeting arrangements with a view to enabling direct dialogue to resolve the issue.

The spokesman said that the Labour Department had been shuttling among parties concerned right from the start of the dispute, with the Secretary for Labour and Welfare actively co-ordinating. We believed that all parties concerned were sincere and hoped to sit down to talk.  The Department would continue its endeavour to conciliate.

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, appeals to all parties concerned to show mutual understanding and narrow their differences through rational dialogue in order to reach a mutually
agreeable solution.
