Chung Ching has hosted numerous well-received "Chinese Dance Culture Series" lectures in recent years. In her coming lecture series, "Ethnic Drums in Exotic China", to be launched in May, Chung will explore the history of drums and dance by tracing them back to their primitive, mystical origins. Chung will also discuss the amazing role of drums in dance through the eight talks and workshops under four themes: the Miao people's "Drums to Invoke Blessings", the Korean ethnic group's "The Rhythmic Drum", northeastern China's "The Calling Drum" and Anhui's "Drum Beats, Heart Beats".
Chung Ching has been teaching dance for 20 years. She holds an M. Lit degree in Dance History from the Chinese National Academy of Arts and an MA degree in Cultural Studies from Lingnan University. She is currently an Examiner (Dance) of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association, Director of the Hong Kong Performing Arts Center and the founder of the Hong Kong Contemporary Youth Dancers. Over the years, she has been invited to give talks on Chinese dance culture and dance workshops. Since 1995, Chung has been a lecturer and instructor of dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and other higher institutes.

"Drum Beats, Heart Beats" (The "Flower Drum Lantern Dance" and Percussive Dance of Anhui)
Participants are advised to wear loose-fitting clothes and soft shoes. Those attending the June 4 and 18 workshops should bring along two octagonal swirl cloths or handkerchiefs for Chinese dance. Those attending the June 25 and July 2 workshops should bring along one folding fan and one octagonal swirl cloth or handkerchief.
"Chinese Dance Culture Series (11): Ethnic Drums in Exotic China" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. All lectures, conducted in Cantonese, will be held at 7.30pm at the Cultural Activities Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall. Tickets priced at $50 (for each lecture, with free seating) are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). Patrons can enjoy a 10 per cent discount on full-price tickets when purchasing tickets for all eight sessions.
