Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal works on Des Voeux Road Central in Central district

     The Transport Department (TD) today (April 5) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on Des Voeux Road Central, Central district, from 10am next Tuesday (April 9) to 6am on April 19 (Friday) to facilitate tram track renewal works.

     The temporary traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(1) Temporary traffic arrangements

* The fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central westbound from a point about 15 metres east of its junction with Ice House Street to a point about 5 metres west of the same junction, and the slow lane of Ice House Street northbound from a point about 30 metres south of its junction with Des Voeux Road Central to the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except trams from 10am on April 9 (Tuesday) to 6am on April 13 (Saturday).

* The fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central westbound from its junction with Ice House Street to a point about 15 metres west of the same junction, and the slow lane of Ice House Street northbound from a point about 30 metres south of its junction with Des Voeux Road Central to the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except trams from 10am on April 15 (Monday) to 6am on April 19 (Friday).

* All vehicles will be temporarily prohibited from making a right turn from Des Voeux Road Central westbound onto Ice House Street northbound. Affected vehicles will be temporarily diverted via Queen's Road Central and Ice House Street.

(2) Temporary transport arrangements

* The bus stops on Ice House Street northbound between Chater Road and Queen's Road Central will be relocated.
* The bus stops on Des Voeux Road Central westbound between Ice House Street and Garden Road will be relocated.
* New World First Bus routes No. 13 and 26, Citybus routes No. 5X and 40M, and cross-harbour routes No. 930A and 969B heading in the Sheung Wan direction will be temporarily diverted.

     Notices will be put up by the bus companies to inform passengers of the above temporary transport arrangements.

     Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to use public transport as far as possible.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
