Secretary for Justice to visit The Hague
****************************************

The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, will visit The Hague in the Netherlands from April 7 to 9 to attend a conference to mark the 120th anniversary of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (Hague Conference).

Mr Yuen will deliver a keynote speech at the conference entitled "The Hague Conference at 120: Today and the Future", sharing with legal officials and professionals the importance of the Hague Conference in the Asia Pacific region. The event will be officiated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

The Asia Pacific Regional Office of the Hague Conference was officially opened in Hong Kong in December 2012. The establishment of the office marked a new chapter for the Hague Conference and a significant vote of confidence in Hong Kong's position as a regional legal services centre. This office is the second regional office of the Hague Conference, in addition to its Latin American regional office.

Mr Yuen will meet with the Secretary General of the Hague Conference, Mr Hans van Loon, to exchange views on the development of the Regional Office.

During his stay in The Hague, Mr Yuen will take the opportunity to meet officials of the Ministry of Security and Justice of the Netherlands, and pay a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He will also have a gathering with a group of Hong Kong students studying in the Netherlands and brief them on Hong Kong's latest developments.

Mr Yuen will return to Hong Kong on April 10.
