Proposed road improvement works in West Kowloon Reclamation Development gazetted

     The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (April 5) on the proposed road improvement works in the West Kowloon Reclamation Development to accommodate developments within the area.

     The works are expected to commence in 2014 and complete in stages, with the earliest completion from end-2015.

     The proposed works are as follows:

(a) construction of an at-grade single-lane carriageway as a slip road connecting West Kowloon Highway southbound to Nga Cheung Road;

(b) construction of an elevated single-lane carriageway connecting the elevated Nga Cheung Road to the Western Harbour Crossing toll plaza area;

(c) construction of an elevated single-lane carriageway connecting Hoi Po Road to West Kowloon Highway northbound;

(d) realignment of a section of Lin Cheung Road northbound and a section of Hoi Fai Road;

(e) road junction improvement works at a junction of Canton Road, Austin Road and Austin Road West, a junction of Canton Road and Wui Cheung Road, as well as a junction of Canton Road, Jordan Road and Ferry Street;

(f) permanent closure and conversion of sections of the existing at-grade carriageways into central medians/refuge islands, amenity areas and abutments;

(g) permanent closure and conversion of sections of the existing footpaths into at-grade carriageways;

(h) permanent closure and conversion of a section of the existing subway staircase into at-grade carriageway and central median/refuge island;

(i) permanent closure and conversion of sections of the existing central medians/refuge islands into at-grade carriageways and abutments;

(j) permanent closure and conversion of sections of the existing amenity areas into at-grade carriageways and abutments;

(k) temporary closure and reconstruction of sections of the existing at-grade carriageways, central medians/refuge islands and amenity areas; and

(l) ancillary works including landscaping, drainage and utilities works.

     The plan and scheme of the proposed works are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:

     Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or their use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 22/F, East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong, on or before June 4.
