The Government today (April 5) announced the appointment of eight new members to the Council on Human Reproductive Technology, with effect from April 11, 2013, for a term of three years. The new members are:

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, welcomed the new members to the Council. He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing members, Ms Sumee Chan Kit-bing, Mrs Viola Chan Man Yee-wai, Mrs Eva Cheng Li Kam-fun, Dr Jennifer Chow Kit-bing, Ms Winnie Chow Weng-yee, Ms Helen Kong Yuen-hoong, Mrs Rita Li Lam Chin-ching and Professor Grace Tang Wai-king for their invaluable contributions and unfailing support to the Council during their term of office. They will retire from the Council with effect from April 10.
Established in 2001 under the Human Reproductive Technology Ordinance, the Council on Human Reproductive Technology was tasked with regulating the conduct of reproductive technology including embryo research in Hong Kong through a licensing system and the publication of a Code of Practice for the relevant professions.
Under section 4(2) of the Ordinance, the Council consists of 26 members from a wide variety of disciplines, including medical specialists, legal professionals, social workers, scholars in philosophy and ethics, psychologists, sociologists, local community leaders and government representatives.
