LCSD parks full of creativity (with photos)
*******************************************

Are you thinking of picking up some unique handicrafts, paintings, calligraphy works or silhouette cuttings to decorate your home or office? You can do so when you visit parks during the holidays to take a break from busy city life.

A new phase of the Arts Corner will be launched at Victoria Park (VP) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) from this Sunday (April 7). Members of the public will be able to find various interesting handicrafts and arts services stalls there.

"The Arts Corner aims to enhance public interest in arts, thereby cultivating arts culture in Hong Kong. It will also make the parks more appealing and enjoyable for park-goers," a spokesman for the department said.

The 14th phase of the Arts Corner at VP will be open from April 7, 2013, to March 30, 2014, between 10am and 6pm on Sundays and public holidays at the South Pavilion Plaza inside the park. There will be 27 stalls selling handicrafts including ornaments, key chains, paper clay goods, paper craft works, carving works, embroidery, knitting and cloth artworks, as well as providing arts services like photography, painting, sketching and calligraphy. The Arts Corner will be suspended when major events are being held.

Besides being held at VP, arts fun fairs will also be held at Hong Kong Park (HKP) and Kowloon Park (KP) of the LCSD.

The 13th phase of the HKP Arts Corner is open every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday, between noon and 6pm until December 31, at the outdoor area near the Flagstaff House Museum of Teaware. There are 10 stalls in operation, including handicrafts stalls selling dough models, handicrafts made of various materials, pins with names and clay works, as well as arts services stalls providing services in painting, calligraphy, silhouette cutting, sketching and caricature drawing.

"Members of the public can select their favourite handicrafts or artworks to suit their own interests. The stalls, specially designed by stallholders, will provide a wide array of items and products catering to various needs and interests. Visitors will be able to choose their favourite items," the spokesman said.

As for the 15th phase of the Arts Fun Fair at KP, it will begin on June 1 at the Loggia and will be open from 1pm to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays until May 31, 2014. The fair will feature a total of 30 stalls selling handicrafts and artworks including pottery, straw-weaving work, dough models, paper craftwork, carving works, accessories, floral artworks, sand paintings, cloth artwork and clay work, as well as provide arts services such as photography, painting, calligraphy, silhouette cutting and sketching or caricature drawing.

Individuals and subvented non-governmental organisations who are interested in operating the stalls in this new round of arts fun fairs are welcome to submit applications from today (April 2). Prospectuses and application forms are available at 1/F, Kowloon Park Management Office, 22 Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. They can also be downloaded from the park's website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/parks/kp/en/arts_and_crafts.php. Application will be closed on April 23.

"The event has been well received by the general public. Besides the arts fun fairs, other specialised facilities in the parks also win the hearts of visitors. They can enjoy a fun-filled weekend in the parks," the spokesman said.
